Floyd Gottfredson, 1933 HR

In the comics, Goofy first appeared in the January 8, 1932 Mickey Mouse sunday page as Dippy Dog. The character was first developed by Floyd Gottfredson.

A close friend of Mickey, Goofy is mixed-up, childish, and eccentric. He is also well-intentioned and ready to help his friends. He is not stupid, but actually has his own logic and a very original way of thinking. A typical Goofy remark is at the end of the story In Search of Jungle Treasure, where Goofy explains to Mickey: It was thuh most beautiful experience o' muh whole life! Mickey asks: You mean-- when we found th' treasure?, and Goofy replies: O' course not, yuh big rummy! I mean-- when the cannibals picked me out first.
