Si tratta effettivamente di una (ennesima) storia molto divertente realizzata dal grande Barks, anche se dotata di meno battute folgoranti del solito, compensate da più gag di movimento e azioni più curate.
Un esempio della classe di Barks: Paperone non riconosce i Bassotti, eppure essi indossano le mascherine. Ebbene, altri autori sorvolano sulla questione e fanno sembrare Paperone un idiota; per Barks bastano semplicemente degli occhiali con montatura nera (indossati sopra le mascherine) per dare una spiegazione logica degli eventi (e senza ribadirla con testo ridondante) e al contempo inventare una gag demenziale divertente.
Il piccolo popolo che compare alla fine è molto dolce. Ottima regia.
Il terrore di Paperone che tutti vogliano assaggiare i suoi "spinaci" è una presa in giro di Popeye (il quale, nella versione a fumetti, aveva a che fare anche con isole misteriose e strani popoli)?
Per contraddire la tesi iniziale, se Barks è il Woody Allen disneyano, questo è uno dei suoi film più curati nella forma ma meno penetrati nell'immaginario collettivo (sta al "Ventino fatale" come "Scoop" sta a "Io e Annie", per dire). |

Per prima cosa è troppo lenta.
Tutta la parte che si svolge all'interno dell'isola è eccessivamente lunga.
Paperone inoltre è troppo remissivo nei confronti dei Bassotti aguzzini.
Ha un moto d'orgoglio solo quando si scaglia contro uno di loro per difendere i nipotini.
Insomma, quest'avventura, pur condita di una buona dose di fascino esotico e di termini hawaiani precisi, manca di ritmo ed è sicuramente meno divertente ed imponente rispetto ad altre opere di Barks. |

The writer went out of imagination at the end and had to bring in elves to rescue the Ducks and the story. Curiously, even though Scrooge McDuck had the locals removed from the island, they still helped him.
But anyway it's a nice story to read and I agree, the drawings are very good. |
