The story is, in good Barksinian style, simply terrific! Also, the sinister tone of both the larkies and the locations, are complemented by Barks's moody, sometimes poignant traces.
From the initial scene on, with Uncle Scrooge surrounded by shadows even in the safety of his own place, going through the one where the hair(feathers?) on his back raise after noticing the larkie hanging from the ceiling, to the one depicting the nephews realising it is too late to tell their uncle about the witches' real plan, watching hopeless as the Argo flies away; really scared the hell out of the 9 year-old me reading this back in the 80's, completely oblivious of his surroundings (actually his cousin's birthday party which was about to take place with kids an all).
+the eerie atmosphere and ever present sense of impending dread really creeped the beejesus out of me when I was a kid;
+plot and artwork (it's a Bark's, after all; what else could one expect?) ;
+creepy surroundings in and out Duckburg/larkies/boat/fog/ruins/hallways/dragon/;
+the culinary contest; plus US's phoney tasting plus ad hoc dishes' names;
+that impressive frame depicting the Argo taking off the port!

La presenza occulta dell'antico mito greco ai giorni nostri, e il viaggio verso l'impossibile terra della Colchide, perduta tra nebbie che nessuno osa violare, hanno tutto il sapore delle visioni allucinate del romanzo Malpertuis di Jean Ray, e trasformano Paperopoli in un luogo sinistro dove si possono aggirare entità arcane di cui è impossibile percepire la vera natura.
Eppure, queste spaventose arpie sono interessate solo alle gare di cucina e al pettegolezzo, e le porcherie che ammanniscono a Paperone sono di una schifezza memorabile, culminante con un vegetale (l'assafetida) che Paperone conosce sebbene sia culinariamente in disuso dal medioevo (lo riprenderà in seguito Rodolfo Cimino, sempre in concomitanza con le streghe).
QQQ si occupano di fornire alla vicenda non solo la componente avventurosa, ma anche la chiave di lettura finto-razionale, col loro Manuale delle GM che riepiloga il mito, lo trasforma in realtà e crea nuove soluzioni per vecchi enigmi, riscrivendo la storia di Giasone e Medea ("litigarono") e sgominando il drago insonne in modo molto creativo.
Come la narrazione è da manuale nel suo archetipo dell'avventura fantastica-ma-non-troppo, così l'arte è classica, chiara, pulita e architetturalmente notevole nel ricostruire il mondo greco classico, alternando rovine a curiosi labirinti sotterranei. | | missdisneypl | | | | Friday, Feb 26, 2021, 12:57:53 PM | 8/10

Il mito del vello d'oro e' indubbiamente fascinoso, ma ci sono troppe spiegazioni e di conseguenza la storia non risulta così scorrevole.
L'arte invece e' elegante e precisa in ogni suo aspetto. Dai colori, ai chiaroscuri, alle ambientazioni. | | Baturzo 82 | | | | Thursday, Dec 21, 2023, 09:10:08 PM | Magnifica storia, una delle migliori mai scritte da Barks: l’idea di calare Paperone e nipoti nelle celebri “Argonautiche” è vincente e la vicenda si sviluppa in maniera brillante, sia nelle scene avventurose sia nei siparietti comici. Il tutto è poi impreziosito da sbalorditivi disegni: i personaggi, e in particolare le arpie, sono perfettamente delineati, mentre le scenografie tetre e nebbiose della Colchide creano una perfetta atmosfera. Forse, nell’aspetto grafico, si tratta del miglior lavoro di Barks in assoluto. |
