Premesse fantastoriche vertiginose: Aristarco che ad Alessandria dedusse che la Terra è sferica, l'ascendenza greca di Cleopatra VII, la tomba perduta di Alessandro il Grande (Soma).
E la posta continua ad alzarsi, man mano che l'azione si sposta a Istanbul e a Venezia, attraversando letteralmente i secoli e continuando a tessere un arazzo favoloso di storia e stupore, con momenti favolosi come l'ambizione dei Medici di raggiungere le Americhe tramite scritti di navigatori fenici.
L'epilogo, con la rivelazione del vero significato del simbolo delle Giovani Marmotte e del segreto dell'onniscenza del loro Manuale, è memorabile proprio come la spettacolare sarabanda storica di una caccia al tesoro che, genialmente quanto credibilmente, conduce fino al luogo più ovvio di tutti.

Il Paperino teledipendente che si perde l'avventura dei nipoti è una trovata ripresa da Carl Barks, e vista ne "Il problema ferroviario".

L'intreccio e la sceneggiatura filano scorrevoli nonostante lo stile denso dell'autore, includendo figure storiche emblematiche cone Aristarco, Tolomeo, Alessandro Magno, Cleopatra, Francis Drake, Colombo, Pizzaro.
La storia non può che concludersi nel modo più logico, nel luogo più classico e pieno di fascino, con il manuale più completo e fantastico mai immaginato. |
